Applications are accepted each summer and fall semesters for the Teacher Leadership M.Ed. program.
Semester Deadlines
SUMMER SEMESTER or FALL SEMESTER (early decision) |
FALL SEMESTER |
- minimum 3.0 GPA and graduate with a bachelor’s degree in education; or
- have minimum one year experience teaching in a public, charter, or private school; or
- be concurrently enrolled in the Urban Institute for Teacher Education licensure program.
Application Process
Prospective graduate students apply for admission through the University of Utah Apply Yourself (AY) online application system (see link below).

IMPORTANT: Under the Program Information section on the AY application, first choose your program of interest, which is Educational Ldrship & Policy MEd. Then choose your area of emphasis - Teacher Leadership.
Please upload the following under the appropriate sections on the Apply Yourself application:
Statement of Intent: What are your professional goals? What is the role of this program in helping you achieve them?Please limit your response to 250 words or less.
Written Essay: The Educational Leadership and Policy Department places a strong emphasis on school improvement and preparing educators to become social justice advocates. Explain how you envision your role as a teacher leader within school improvement and how you would address issues of access, equity, and diversity for students. Please limit your response to 300 words or less.
Resume: Applicants are asked to submit a resume that outlines their education and professional history; including any leadership roles in education.
Recommendation Letters -- Three recommendation letters are required. One from a current supervisor; and
two from individuals with knowledge of the applicant’s academic and/or leadership
potential.
No GRE test required!
Applicants are responsible to ensure that all application materials are provided on or prior to the application semester deadline. Applications that are incomplete at the application deadline will not be considered.
