Bio

As a Master of Social Work student, I was assigned to complete a two-semester practicum at Jackling Elementary School in West Valley City, Utah. That experience forever changed my life because it introduced me to the complex world of education. I was awarded the distinguished Practicum Student of the Year Award for my services to the students and families of Jackling and was then hired by Granite School District as a School Social Worker. Upon graduation, I immediately reenrolled in the University of Utah’s School Counseling program and completed the graduate level course work to receive a School-Counseling License.

While working as a Social Worker/Counselor in Granite School District, I was certified as a MANDT trainer and taught crisis intervention supports to Special Education teachers, assistants and administrators. During this time, I also had the opportunity to work evenings, weekends and holidays at the Salt Lake County Jail as a Mental Health Crisis worker. There were times when I supported students and their incarcerated parent in the same day.

My views on the importance of education were solidified through those experiences. The instruction I received through the Utah Professional Development Center regarding Multi Tiered Systems of Support guided me towards furthering my education in the Educational Leadership and Policy program at the University of Utah where I graduated in 2012.

During this juncture in my career, I was hired to be an Integrated Support Coach for Granite School District and charged with supporting multiple administrators and their school leadership teams with their implementation of Multi Tiered Systems of Support. Our coaching team focused on supporting effective PLC practices, data based decision-making and gaining consensus among stakeholders to help schools meet their school improvement plans.

I was hired by Canyons School District in 2012 as an Assistant Principal and assigned to Midvale Middle School where my work with Multi Tiered Systems of Support helped guide the successful implementation of Positive Behavior Supports and Academic Responses to Intervention. I was hired spring of 2015 to be Principal of Canyon View Elementary where I am currently serving.
